Team News
Last week, the QFA announced that Al Duhail forward Mohamed Muntari sustained an ankle injury during their warm-up match against Cambodia, ruling him out of the upcoming continental tournament as he prepares for surgery.
In response to Muntari’s absence, coach Lopez called up Ismail Mohammed from the same club, only to face another setback when Osama Al Tairi withdrew from the squad due to a cruciate ligament tear just days before the competition’s commencement.
In an effort to bolster the attacking lineup, Lebanon enlisted the services of Sweden Under-19 attacker Leonardo Chahine, who boasted an impressive record of 18 goals in 33 games in the Swedish third tier. Despite completing the player’s passport, the Lebanese Football Association failed to register him with FIFA in time, resulting in the unfortunate exclusion of the promising youngster from this year’s tournament.
Nevertheless, the team successfully processed the paperwork for Omar Bugiel of AFC Wimbledon and Daniel Lajud of Atalante in the Mexican second tier within the deadline, making both players eligible for selection in the upcoming Friday match.
