Nepali Cricket Team will finally be action in the longer format of the game after around 7 months as they are to take on Canada and Oman in ICC CWC League 2 series starting from September 16.

Cricket Canada is hosting Nepal and Oman in the tri-series of ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 2024-26.

In the first match of the series, Nepal will take on the host Canada to start the campaign.

Nepal and Canada aren’t new opponents to each other. Canada had toured Nepal earlier this year and played a couple of series with Nepal National side and Nepal A.

The both teams have played each other quite rarely in other occasions. Nepal and Canada have gone head to head in just 6 occasions in List A and only single time in the T20Is.

In the head to head records, Nepal remains at the top with 5-1 lead. Nepal has defeated the Canadian side five times out of six matches.

Among those five wins, Nepal managed to win by chasing in the four matches. Only one of the match was won by batting first.

In T20Is, Nepal had won the only match played between these two sides.

Recent Forms

Coming into this match, both of the teams aren’t in good touch in this form. The host Canada lost all their four match of the series to USA and Netherlands last month. With the loses, their perfect run in the League 2 ended. Previously, they were undefeated with four wins from the four matches in their first series.

On the other hand, Nepal hasn’t been in good touch in the previous ODIs. However, they had a descent T20 World Cup but their performance in last few ODI matches haven’t been upto the mark.

In their first series of the league 2, Nepal lost 3 of their four matches at home. Therefore, Nepal’s visit to Canada will be very crucial.

Sandeep Lamichhane back after a year

Nepal’s ace spinner Sandeep Lamichhane is back in the longer format of the game for Nepal as he marks his return after a year gap. Lamichhane was part of Nepal’s squad in the T20 World Cup but he missed out the first tri-series of the League 2 back in February.

Nepal’s squad: Rohit Paudel (captain), Asif Sheikh, Anil Sah, Bhim Sharki, Arif Sheikh, Kushal Malla, Arjun Saud, Sompal Kami, Karan KC, Gulshan Jha, Rijan Dhakal, Lalit Rajbanshi, Kushal Bhurtel, Dipendra Singh Airee, Sandeep Lamichhane, and Dev Khanal (traveling reserve).

Canada are yet to announce their final squad for the series. They are currently playing practice matches against the MCC XI.
