Nepal drawn against Australia, Jordan in FIFA World Cup 2022 Qualifiers
Nepal national football team has been drawn against strong opponents Australia and Jordan in 2nd round Asian qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™.
Nepal is in Group B. Along with Nepal, Australia and Jordan there are two other teams, Chinese Taipei and Kuwait. The final fixtures will be revealed later.
Group B: Australia, Chinese Taipei, Jordan, Kuwait, and Nepal.
Nepal had directly qualified for the second round of the qualification as Nepal was among the top 34 Asian teams. The second round matches will start from September 5, 2019 to June 9, 2020. It will be a double round-robin as each team will play the other twice, one in home and the other at away ground.
Total 8 group winners from 8 groups along with four best second-placed teams will qualify for the Asia Cup 2023 and will also qualify for the final round of FIFA World Cup 2022 Qualifiers. The top four teams from that will book their ticket to Qatar in 2022 while the fifth-placed team will play inter-continental play-off.
In the previous edition, Nepal had lost in the first round to India , 2-0 on aggregrate.
