Nepal bounce back to defeat Maldives

Nepal Olympic team registered their second victory in the ongoing South Asian Games football to solidify their place in the final. Nepal came from a goal down to defeat Maldives 2-1, thanks to a goal each from Abhishek Rijal and Ananta Tamang.

With the win, Nepal remains at the top of the table with 7 points from 3 matches  and Bhutan being at second with 6 points from three matches.

In the full packed Dashrath Stadium, Maldives took the lead in the 18 minute to silence the home crowd of thousands. However, the home fans roared at their best as Abhishek Rijal scored a fantastic volley from outside the box with 3 minutes left on clock for first half.

Soon after the start of the second half, Nepal took lead in the match as Ananta Tamang headed home from a perfect corner kick from Sunil Bal. Tamang’s solid header couldn’t be judged by the Maldivian goalie.

Nepal will play their last group match tomorrow against Bangladesh at 5 pm. A draw against Bangladesh will send Nepal to the final with a lose also paving way for the final (conditions).
