Argentina football team has been through really tough time as they were beaten by Colombia 2-0 in the Copa America 2019 opener following a 1-1 draw against Paraguay. The draw also came just after Argentina were awarded penalty by VAR and Messi converted it.
Collecting only a single point from two matches, Argentina are seeded at the bottom of 4-teams group B. Top two teams from each group along with two best third place finishers among three groups will advance to knock-out round. Therefore, Argentina has still chances of making it to the quarter-final. However, they must win their last group match against Asian Champions Qatar.
How can Argentina Qualify ?
If Argentina win their last group match against Qatar, then they are almost certain to qualify for the next round. They can qualify as the runner-up of group B, if Colombia defeats/draws Paraguay and Argentina defeats Qatar. A draw against Qatar will all but knock out Argentina from the Copa America.
If not the runner up, Argentina can qualify as top two third place finishers. In group C, the possible third place finishers are Japan and Ecuador and each has the goal difference of -4, compared to -2 of Argentina. Therefore, Argentina can also have goal difference advantage for finishing top two third place finishers.
