Barcelona defeated Leganes, Messi netted 699th career goal

Lionel Messi inspired Barcelona to back-to-back two wins after the La Liga resumption. Messi scored one as Barcelona cruise past Leganes with a 2-0 home victory.

In the first match played at Camp Nou after 103 days, Ansu Fati was given start ahead of freshly fit Luis Suarez and Martin Braithwaite. Braithwaite has scored the opener against Mallorca in the first match against Real Mallorca.

With the win, Barca are now five points clear of Real Madrid who plays Valencia on Thursday. The gap can be reduced to two if Madrid wins the match.

For the home team, teenager Ansu Fati opened the scoring in the 42nd minute with a composed finish from the edge of the box.

Skipper Leo Messi sealed the victory for the home team when he scored from the penalty spot in 69th minute. With the goal, Messi moved to 699 carer goals which also took him a goal closer to Pele’s record. Messi is 14 goals away from surpassing Pele’s record of most goal scored for a single club.

Speaking at the post match conference, Barce boss Setien praised the teenage Fati.

“He did a good job, both in attack and defence. It’s true he still lacks some things, but he needs the consistency that he still doesn’t have due to the injury problems that prevented him training some days,” Setien said. “He did really well when he was on but didn’t want to put him at risk anymore after those problems.”
