Bangladeshi cricket stalwarts, Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal, are poised to represent new teams as the Bangladesh Cricket Board prepares to conduct the players’ draft for the upcoming Bangladesh Premier League today.
Shakib, who previously played for Fortune Barishal, has now joined Rangpur Riders. On the other hand, Tamim, a former Khulna Tigers player, is set to play for Barishal in the upcoming 10th edition of the BPL.
Veteran cricketer Mushfiqur Rahim is the only player listed in the ‘A’ category, commanding a price tag of Tk 80 Lakhs.
Soumya Sarkar, who is being eyed for the imminent ICC World Cup and is a part of the Bangladesh ODI team for the current series against New Zealand, has been categorized under āDā.
Nasir Hossain, a former Bangladesh all-rounder who led the Dhaka franchise last season, is conspicuously absent from the draft. He’s among the eight individuals facing charges under the Emirates Cricket Board’s anti-corruption code, as sanctioned by the ICC. As investigations are ongoing, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has chosen to exclude him from this draft.
For the next season, the BPL governing council is introducing 203 local players across six categories:
- ‘B’ category: 4 players [Tk 50 Lakh]
- ‘C’ category: 18 players [Tk 30 Lakh]
- ‘D’ category: 31 players [Tk 20 Lakh]
- ‘E’ category: 75 players [Tk 15 Lakh]
- ‘F’ category: 29 players [Tk 10 Lakh]
- ‘G’ category: 45 players [Tk 5 Lakh]
In addition to local talents, 443 international players will be part of the auction, featuring cricketing giants like Rashid Khan, Wanindu Hasaranga, and Babar Azam.
