AFC U-16 Championship 2020 Draw: India drawn alongside Australia and South Korea

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) on Thursday conducted a the draws for AFC U16 as well as AFC U19 Championship.

India is only the team to qualify for the AFC U16 championship from South Asia and are drawn in the tough group.

India are drawn in Group C alongside last edition’s semi-finalist Australia, Asian powerhouse South Korea and Uzbekistan. The official draw was held at the AFC House in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday afternoon.

India has qualified for the finals of the championship in September after topping the Group B, finishing above the host Bahrain, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan.

In the last edition, the Indian side reached the quarter-final and lost to South Korea narrowly.

The AFC U16 Championship also serves as the mode of qualification for the U17 FIFA World Cup. The top four teams from the championship will qualify for the World Cup.

Nepal failed to qualify for the championship after finishing fourth in five teams standing. Nepal managed to grab a win and a draw in the course, conceding 15 goals. Nepal’s only win came against Sri Lanka.
